Twenty-six Students Receive Degrees From Sherman College

Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic held its 75th commencement ceremony on September 26, 1998 in the Mack and Kitty Scallon Building on the college campus.

Twenty-six students from around the world received the doctor of chiropractic degree.

Daniel Max Lemberger from New York received the prestigious B.J. Palmer Chiropractic Philosophy Distinction Award for his unique understanding of chiropractic.

Kevin John Sylvestre was awarded the Milton W. Garfunkel Award. The recipient of the Garfunkel Awards is chosen on the basis of high academic performance, exceptional clinical application of chiropractic philosophy and principles, contribution to the college, and involvement in extracurricular activities. The farewell address at graduation is presented by the recipient of the Garfunkel Award.

The commencement address was given by Dr. Sal Martingano, a renowned motivational speaker and founder of The Family Center for Chiropractic in Palm Bay, Fla. He is a 1981 graduate of Sherman College where he received an award in clinical excellence and the prestigious B.J. Palmer Chiropractic Philosophy Distinction Award for his unique understanding of chiropractic. Celebrating the 10th year of his weekly radio program “Straight Talk on Chiropractic,” Martingano also offers insights into alternative approaches to health care as a weekly guest on the medical television talk show “Check-Up,” Dr. Lou Corleto, a 1992 honor graduate from Life Chiropractic College, gave the charge to the graduates. Corleto resides and practices in Elizabethton, Tenn. Founder of the Annual Chiropractic Awareness Night and The East Tennessee Cell-FCenter, Corleto serves on the Sherman College Distinguished Board of Regents and is an extension faculty member for Sherman College and for Palmer College of Chiropractic.
